Yesterday, members of our Greatest Generation who fought in World War II were turned away from the memorial honoring them and their deceased former fellow soldiers.
Barricades blocked the entrance. The order to do this came from the White House. Reportedly, the Park Service is now allowing veterans to enter the plaza, but this never should have happened in the first place.
Now don’t you think it should be okay for World War II veterans to visit an open memorial? Heck, it isn’t like they have to go up some stairs or into a building. Effectively, the World War II Memorial is an open park. On a normal day, you can walk right through it as you walk along the National Mall. Likely, you’ll see lots of tourists and World War II veterans as you pass through. Rarely, you’ll spot a National Park Service Ranger. Except for turning the fountains on, I’m not sure what “work” is required to maintain the park.
Closing this memorial, particularly to veterans, is nothing more than theatrics. As far as I’m concerned, if these veterans want to see this memorial, they have every right to do so. There aren’t many of them left, and it may be their only chance.
These men are the reason our country became the superpower it is. Truly, they are the Greatest Generation. For even one of them to be kept out of a place created in their honor by the worst president we’ve ever had is shameful.
It’s pathetic and embarrassing to think that we would elect someone who would do such a thing. It is disrespectful of our country and what it stands for. And to think that this man is our Commander in Chief.
The men who visit the World War II Memorial are among those who stormed the beach at Normandy and fought in the worst of conditions at Iwo Jima. Yet, Obama allowed them to sit in their wheelchairs, blocked by a barricade, so that he could show once again his flair for the dramatic. Must he always be about the campaign? Must he always put on a show?
Well yes, apparently so.
What a terrible thing to do. Blood, treasure, and life itself was given by World War II fighters so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.
Obama just keeps stepping in it. He’s ruining our economy, making us drown in debt, embarrassing us internationally, and leaving us sick with the worst policy ever—ObamaCare.
We are going to need to work long and hard to repair all the damage he’s doing. First, we all need to pull together and win the Senate races needed to take control of the Senate from that troll, Harry Reid. Next, we must win back the White House.
Let’s just hope that by then it’s not too late.
It may be a longshot with all the damage he’s done, but let’s try our best to keep Obama from unraveling everything the Greatest Generation fought for and stop continuing down the road of the worst generation in our history.
