As anyone who reads this blog knows, I’ve been extremely hard on morons in the GOP who think it’s their place to discuss rape, particularly when it comes to issues regarding rape that only a woman could possibly understand.
The media would have you think that such stupid remarks are reserved only for knuckle dragging cave dwellers in the GOP.
Now Colorado State Rep. Joe Salazar, a Democrat, has cleared this question up.
Idiotic comments about rape aren’t exclusively a Republican problem. Sadly, it appears to just be a guy thing.
During a legislative hearing regarding guns on college campuses, Rep. Salazar made the following observation in explaining why he believes women don’t need guns on campus: “It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble and when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop—pop a round at somebody.”
Evidently, Rep. Salazar doesn’t know what it’s like to feel like someone might rape or attack in such a situation because he’s NOT A WOMAN! Maybe he should spend some time in the nearest penitentiary and see what it’s like to feel threatened by a rapist.
Furthermore, he must be kidding when he implies that all female college co-eds need to relax because college campuses are clearly marked as “safe zones,” and we all know that the minute a criminal sees one of those signs, he stops dead in his tracks and heads to the nearest convenience store that’s generally not a “safe zone” to unleash his terror.
This guy must be joking.
It gets worse. For all you nervous Nellies out there who don’t feel comforted by the safe free zone assurances, buy yourself a whistle.
I’m sure not just any whistle will do. For example, don’t get one at the pet store because while you’ll drive a Doberman crazy, the criminal who’s about to RAPE you won’t be able to hear it. Sometimes I can’t hear one of those referee whistles either, but maybe that’s just because of all the crowd noise. Whatever you do, make sure you get a good loud whistle to scare off the guy who wants to RAPE you.
Clearly, I’m not serious. Hopefully, neither is Rep. Salazar. Fortunately, he apologized “if” he offended anyone (as if that was a question in anyone’s mind).
I am sick of gun control people like Rep. Salazar trying to take away my right to defend myself. Women on campus should have guns. Lots of guns. That way, the bad guys—murderers, rapists, women beaters, sickos—will think twice before threatening a woman.
Rep. Salazar and other members of the Colorado legislature need to follow the lead of my good friend, Indiana State Senator Jim Banks, who is pushing a bill to allow female students to carry guns on campus. This is a great idea. It will prevent rapes, murders, and assaults. It will also give young women on campus peace of mind and protection from scummy sick guys who want to take advantage of and abuse women.
Senator Banks has the right idea.
Give the girls their guns.
