Hey GOP–Leave the Gays Alone!

March 26th, 2013

So the GOP got destroyed in basically every category in the 2012 election.  Now, after they’ve spent millions of dollars on some sort of listening tour that’s supposed to serve as an “autopsy” for the party, the conclusions reached allude to the idea that we’re basically dead as a party.  In my opinion, we aren’t dead, but we will be if we don’t get our act together.

Today, the Supreme Court will hear cases regarding same sex marriage.  The GOP platform says we are against same sex marriage.  I really don’t even know why we address it as a party.  At the same time, we say we are tolerant of gays.  Well, which is it?  Sounding hypocritical is the worst thing.  Personally, I don’t have a problem with gay relationships.  As far as I’m concerned, if they find love, that’s great.  It’s really none of my business or anyone else’s.  I believe it’s live and let live on this issue, and I know you’ll never change how someone feels naturally.  They aren’t hurting anyone, so why be haters?

It’s none of my business what other people do with their private lives. If you’re not hurting anyone else, what’s the big deal? If you don’t like something, then don’t do it yourself.  Our party sounds so mean and archaic complaining about gays.  Since when did the Republican Party become the sex gods?

Younger people both Republican and Democrat are soundly supportive of gays.  They don’t have the prejudice which is very good and a step in the right direction.

I also believe that allowing same sex marriage will actually be better for families since gay couples will be able to adopt children who otherwise would not be able to be raised in a loving stable family unit.

I was happy to see Senator Rob Portman come out in support of same sex marriage.  His statements clearly prompted Hillary Clinton to do the same.  It’s good to see a Republican take the lead on this issue.

I would rather we concentrate on the economy and national security and leave gays alone, meaning be supportive of gay marriage or at least civil unions.  Really, why do we care how anyone spends their own time?

The GOP needs to not be haters and instead make sure that we don’t have bank runs like Greece and that our country is safe and our allies like Israel have our support.   They just need to quit picking on gays and other people who are different.  We need to pick our battles, and I know I am not fighting my gay friends.  Saying we are tolerant and then saying marriage is only between and man and a woman is disingenuous. There are all kinds of marriage in all kind of cultures.  Logically, we should be open to all of them.

So let people get their groove on however they want.  We all know we are happier when that’s what’s going on.

You said ” the GOP got destroyed in basically every category in the 2012 election”…. They still own the House of Representatives which is pretty huge.

GREAT post today, DeeDee! I have never understood why political parties make an issue out of marriage. Thanks for sharing your position, may others follow!

Its the gays who are trying to change the definition of marriage. It’s the gay’s who are trying to act like
God approves of the behavior. They want their lifestyle to be acceptable.

Next it will be we should accept Pedophilia because they are “born that way”. The line will keep getting pushed and pushed.

The biggest problem in this country is the breakdown of families. That’s what the government should be pushing. Making families stay together. Out of wedlock births. Poverty, crime almost all our problems can go back to that.

We need to get back to where people are embarrassed and shamed for living a sinful life. Morals need to make a comeback.

You act like Republicans should stay out of social issues. Bull, Republicans need to put social issues back and the forefront. Because most of our problems can be traced back to those! America needs to put GOD back in front.
